Dr. Sylwia Karpinski welcomed to cardiovascular surgery team at Catholic Medical Center
Catholic Medical Center (CMC) is pleased to announce that Sylwia Karpinski, MD, MBA, FACS, FACC, a board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon, has joined the hospital’s cardiovascular surgery team. Dr. Karpinski has already begun seeing patients at CMC, rounding with Drs. Ben Westbrook and Erik Green as the third member of the program’s surgical team.
Dr. Karpinski brings more than 15 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, with advanced expertise in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac procedures, valve surgery and specialized atrial fibrillation treatments including AtriCure Convergent and AtriClip procedures. She is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Karpinski earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She went on to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston where she continues to hold an appointment as assistant clinical professor of surgery. She also holds an MBA with a concentration in healthcare management from the University of Texas and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wayne State University.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Karpinski has served in multiple leadership roles and contributed to hospital committees on quality, ethics and credentialing across several states.
